Welcome to John Adams Elementary! We are located in the vibrant Normal Heights community of San Diego. Our enrollment of 350 students, from preschool through grade 5, represents a diverse student population including 26% English Language Learners. We offer rigorous instruction focused on Common Core State Standards as well as believe in attending to the whole child through our extensive arts programs (dance, music, and visual arts), technology, physical education, social-emotional programs, and our Dual-Language Spanish immersion program. Upper-grade students hold leadership roles through our Lighthouse Student Team and Ally Action group as well as other leadership opportunities.
Our teachers are learners. Teachers invest time in professional learning communities to analyze data and respond to the instructional needs of each student. In addition, teachers learn about positive behavioral strategies and trauma-informed practices.
Family Wednesdays inform parents of student learning, tips for parents, and encourage involvement at school. Parents’ shared decision making is encouraged through the School Site Council, Site Governance Team and English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC). The Parent Teacher Community Organization (Adams PTCO) hosts family events.
